# Binance, in the same book as your salary

A read-only key, and your trades, deposits and withdrawals arrive as transactions next to the rent, with a cost basis kept.

Read only, and refused if the key can trade or withdraw. How we check that is below.

#### Not a balance. The movements that stand behind it

A tracker shows today's value. That number answers nothing in January.

- Spot fills arrive as a pair of legs, what left and what arrived, so a sale has a real price and not a guess.
- Fees arrive as their own line, in the currency they were charged in.
- Deposits and withdrawals arrive as transfers, and when the other side is a wallet you also connected, the two are joined into one move.
- The first sync reaches back to 1 January of the previous calendar year, so two tax years are covered.
- After that it keeps up hourly.

#### We ask Binance what your key can do, and refuse it if the answer is wrong

Promising read only is easy. This is what we do instead of promising.

- Before the connection exists: The key is tried against Binance first; nothing is saved until it answers.
- What we ask Binance: Binance publishes the restrictions on a key and we read them: a key that reports the right to trade or to withdraw is rejected.
- If the answer is unclear: Refused. An answer without the flags we read counts as no answer: a venue that renamed them would otherwise pass every key as read only.
- Where the secret lives: Encrypted at rest once it is accepted, and never returned by our API again, not to you and not to us.
- If the key stops working: Sync stops after repeated auth failures, the space owner gets one message, and you replace the key in place.

Give the key read permission and nothing else, or the connection stops here.

#### Moving your own coins is not a sale

Most tools book it as one anyway, and the bill is real.

- A withdrawal to your own wallet is matched to the arrival on the other side by transaction hash.
- Matched, the two legs become one internal move and no gain is calculated.
- Unmatched, it is left out of the disposals rather than counted as a sale.

Exchanges connect on every plan, the free one included. A plan counts the rows synced in a month, not the connections.
